Career Development
American Crystal Sugar Company believes that continual growth and development opportunities for our employees are critical to building a world-class sugar company. Each year more than 20 percent of our workforce is promoted and advanced to new positions with higher pay. We offer in-house training, job shadowing, and reimbursement for higher education, seminars, and other professional courses.
Factory Career Track Programs
The process of making quality products for customers in the cereal, baking, soft drink, and candy industries is highly rewarding – but it is also complicated. Our career track programs and dynamic work environment provide on-the-job training and expose employees to a variety of career opportunities. We engage 600+ employees in active training every year to ensure lifelong careers with advancement opportunities.
Our program curriculums are referred to as a master’s degree in sugar processing. From entry-level to skilled professionals, employees are provided classroom and hands-on training with factory experts to advance their knowledge and skills And, as skills advance, opportunities for pay and promotion grow!

Process Technicians
Completing this program can propel employees from a general labor PT VI position up to a PT I position overseeing a large portion of factory operations.
Boiler Technicians
Successful graduates of this program can advance from a general labor BT 6 position up to a BT 1 position overseeing factory power generation operations.
Packaging Techs
Employees completing this program can be promoted from a general labor PKGT IV position up to a PKGT I position overseeing a large portion of sugar product packaging operations.
Engineering Advancement Program
American Crystal Sugar Company offers college students pursuing an engineering degree the opportunity to put their learning to use. Our Engineering Advancement Program provides hands-on engineering experience as a co-op or intern. Successful completion typically leads to a full-time engineering position upon graduation.

American Crystal Sugar Company offers college students pursuing an agricultural degree the opportunity to put their education to use. Interns will be able to work side by side with our professional agricultural staff.

Bismarck State College Partnership
Our partnership with Bismarck State College helps prepare students for Packaging Techs, Electronic Control Technician – ECT, House Mechanic, Boiler Technicians, and Process Technician careers at our factories. Full scholarships, covering tuition, tools, books, and room/board costs, are awarded annually to students pursuing AAS degrees in Power Generation Technology, Process Technology, Industrial Automation, Instrumentation and Control Technology, and Mechanical Maintenance Technology.
Graduates are guaranteed a position with our factories after successfully completing the program.

Minnesota North College-Mesabi Range
Our partnership with Minnesota North College-Mesabi Range helps prepare students for House Mechanic and Electronic Control Technician careers at our factories. Full scholarships, covering tuition, tools, books, and room/board costs, are awarded annually to students pursuing an AAS degree in Electrical Controls and a diploma in Industrial Mechanical Technology.
Minnesota North College-Mesabi Range is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.
Graduates are guaranteed a position with our factories after successfully completing the program.

North Dakota State College of Science
Our newest partnership with North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND will prepare students for careers as Electronic Control Technicians or Packaging Techs at our factory locations. Full scholarships, covering tuition, tools, books and room/board costs, are awarded yearly to students pursuing AAS degrees in the Robotics, Automation, and Mechatronics Technology Program.
Graduates are guaranteed a position with our factories after successfully completing the program.

Tuition Reimbursement
American Crystal Sugar Company believes in the value of a great education. That’s why we offer a tuition reimbursement program designed to help employees offset the cost of college courses. Those who qualify are eligible for 75 percent reimbursement of tuition and books.
