Sugarbeet Harvester Pre-Field Checklist

Ensure your harvester is ready for another campaign by following the checklists below.

Hitch & PTO
  • Bolts are tight
  • Pivot pins tight/keys in place
  • Cracked welds or bent metal
  • PTO – U-joints no play
  • Greased
Row Finder
  • Mounts are tight/inspect all welds
  • Arms straight, even, and move freely
  • “T” shaft straight and moves freely
  • Arms centered over the row
  • Hydraulics and electronics working properly
  • Greased
Lifter Wheels & Struts
  • Wheels worn (less than 1″)
  • Wheels bent, cracked, or casting flaws
  • Row spacing (using 22, 44, 66…)
  • Strut bolts – tight
  • Strut and scraper inspected for cracks or wear
  • Rock package adjusted to specifications
  • Bearings, seals, and tightness
  • Pinch points (1 1/2″ to 2″)
  • Check pinch point angle (all the same)
  • Mud scrapers adjusted to proper location
  • Greased
Paddle Shaft
  • Shaft straight and welds inspected
  • Bearings good and lock collar tight
  • Drive chain, gears, and slip clutch inspected
  • Paddles timed
  • Paddle wear and wheel clearance correct
  • Drive chains oiled and bearings greased
Apron Shaft & Chain
  • Shaft straight and welds inspected
  • Drive chain, gears, and slip clutch inspected
  • Bearings good and lock collar tight
  • Apron chain tension (worn 30-50 percent – replace)
  • Apron chain drive sprockets worn (flip?)
  • Apron to wheel clearance (1.5 – 3″)
  • Apron chain to grabroll clearance (0.5″)
  • Drive chains oiled and bearings greased
Grabrolls
  • Inspect bearings (loose or worn)
  • Scrolling in good shape (over 50 percent)
  • Smooth and grab tubes (straight and no wear areas)
  • Plastic – chunks missing or worn through
  • Check lock collars, tapered hubs, and shafts
  • Tighten all bolts
  • Inspect drive belts/chains and alignment
  • Grab spacing – pinch side (1-2″ tube to tube)
  • Drive chains oiled and bearings greased
Scrub Chain and Tower
  • Inspect tower for cracks, wear points, and loose bolts
  • Idler wheels – check bearings, wear, and tightness
  • Idler rollers – check bearings, wear, and tightness
  • Scrub chain worn (over 30-50 percent wear)
  • Scrub chain drive sprockets worn (flip?/replace)
  • Tension arms adj. – wheels have 3/4″ to 1″ clearance
  • Scrub chain to grabroll clearance (0.5″)
  • Head shaft – bearings, sprockets, and drive chain
  • Run and inspect scrub chains alignment
  • Drive chains oiled and bearings greased
Wheel and Carrier
  • Inspect wheel for wear, cracks (welds), and loose bolts
  • Inspect wheel carrier for cracks and loose bolts
  • Wheel carriers – worn – check bearings
  • Drive chain, gear, and bearings inspected
  • Shoe – worn or bent (running centered)
  • Knockouts inspected
  • Wheel cleaner inspected
  • Drive chains oiled and bearings greased
Boom and Mini-Tank
  • Inspect boom for cracks, wear points, and loose bolts
  • Tank structure sound (tight, welds, and fatigue)
  • Chain slides – no breaks or excess wear
  • Idler wheels – check bearings, wear and tightness
  • Idler rollers – check bearings, wear and tightness
  • Conveyor chains worn (over 30-50 percent wear)
  • Conveyor chain drive sprockets worn (flip?/replace)
  • Shafts – bearings, sprockets, and drive chains
  • Run and inspect conveyor chain alignment
  • Hydraulic motors and pumps – tighten bolts and screws
  • Drive chains oiled and bearings greased
Structural
  • Main frame welds, cracks, and fatigue
  • Rear struts – tight, welds, scrapers, and fatigue
  • Rear wheels – bearings, greased, and tire PSI
Misc.
  • Inspect all hydraulics for leaks and worn hoses
  • Hydraulic motors and pumps – tighten bolts and screws
  • Inspect all electronics for wear points and functioning
  • Inspect watering system bent brackets and mounts
  • Water system hoses, nozzles, pumps – functioning
  • All safety shields in place and functioning
