VersaLime

We Won't Charge You A Dime To Get The Benefits Of VersaLime.

What is VersaLime?

VersaLime is the same lime we have offered to area growers for years. This byproduct of beet sugar purification is proven to help control Aphanomyces root rot and provides other benefits, such as adding valuable nutrients, raising soil pH and improving soil structure.

Effective VersaLime application

  • Apply 7 – 10 tons per acre
  • Apply 1 year before sugarbeets
  • Spread as evenly as possible
  • Thoroughly incorporate with tillage

Our by-product is your benefit
American Crystal’s five Red River Valley factories produce 350,000 tons of lime each year. And it’s available to you for NO CHARGE.

Versatile benefits for all you grow
Aphanomyces root rot causes major yield losses. VersaLime from American Crystal can help.

Facts and numbers
For 20 years, Dr. Carol Windels, University of Minnesota, NWROC, has evaluated lime applications to reduce stand loss and root rot rating. Along with other area research and trials, lime application is proven to provide:

  • Long-term Aphanomyces control for higher yields, sugar percent, RST, RSA and revenue per acre
  • Additional P, K and other micronutrients
  • Each ton of applied lime raises the soil test P level about 1 ppm
  • Increased P, Ca, Mg, S and pH (but not above 8.2)
  • No negative yield impact on wheat, soybeans or dry edible beans for continued rotations
  • No impact on soluble salt levels
  • Suitable replacement of broadcast phosphorous application

This calculator is designed to aid the user in determining the value of applying factory lime to their fields. It does not take into account the additional value of disease abatement on Aphanomyces infected fields. Refer to the Lime Fact Sheet for more information.
