Crews Clean Up Sugar, Molasses
August 3, 2004 By Jeff Zent, The Forum HILLSBORO, N.D. -- Heavy equipment operators Monday continued clearing the site of a Saturday night 13-car railroad derailment about a mile north of here. The rear 13 cars of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway train derailed about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, said BNSF spokesman Gus Malonas. The cause of the derailment was not known Monday. Eight of the 13 derailed cars were each carrying 100 tons of bulk sugar from the American Crystal Sugar Plant in East Grand Forks, Minn., said American Crystal spokesman Jeff Schweitzer. Two other cars carried molasses and packaged sugar, also loaded at the East Grand Forks plant, Schweitzer said. |
