Disease & Insect Control
"Best Management
Practices" for disease and insect control.
The sugarbeet root maggot, aphanomyces, cercospora and even the lowly lygus bug are a few
of the pests that present varying challenges year to year. With most diseases and some
insects, complete control is either not possible or is cost prohibitive so our approach
needs to be more management than control, using all methods, products and strategies
available to keep pests in check and under economic thresholds. A planting strategy to
include insecticide, flexibility and awareness in cercospora control and indexing soil for
aphanomyces potential are a few areas that growers need to be aware of and prepared for.
