Fertility
Precision "N" management to maximize net sucrose.
"Remember the 120" served us well for many years in pursuit of a "quality" crop of sugarbeets. It
is time now to move beyond that and look at nitrogen management in a different
way. New technology including GPS, GIS, site specific "N" management, zone
fertilization and nitrogen credit given to beet tops are some of the areas
"beyond" the simple soil test of the past. Managing the "N" in all crops in the
rotation is a concept that will have a profound affect on increasing the quality
of our sugarbeet crops in the future.
